Bruxism (teeth grinding)

Bruxism (teeth grinding)

Bruxism (teeth grinding) is a common disorder that manifests itself by involuntary and excessive clenching of teeth outside of periods of voluntary chewing. The most common symptoms are:

  • cracking of the jaws;
  • tooth sensitivity (especially in the morning);
  • The deterioration of the dentition (enamel, dentin, damaged crowns)
  • stiffness of the jaws;
  • blockage of the mouth opening;
  • earaches;
  • headaches and fatigue upon waking up.

    Bruxism can be treated with the wearing of resin trays to protect the teeth, but also with anxiolytics to reduce muscle contraction.

    Injecting botulinum toxin (Botox) into the masseters (chewing muscles) can relax the area to reduce the severity of symptoms.
